Farm History

A Brief History Of Sevilo Farm

Originally, the farm formed part of Spier Wine Estate and, after having been subdivided from the main farm, it was given its first name, Olives.

In 1996, Hans-Joachim Schreiber (HJS) purchased the farm from the Joubert family and incorporated it into his 1984-acquisition, Neethlingshof Estate, just a few kilometres away. For many years, the farm formed an integral part of Neethlingshof Estate, with many of the grapes produced, making it into the Estates top-echelon wines.

In 2017, Guy Webber, the Winemaker of the Company’s Hill&Dale range of wines at the time, moved onto the farm and it was decided to rename it “Hill&Dale” as, by this stage, many of the Hill&Dale wines were being produced from grapes grown on the farm. Following the December 2017 passing of HJS, things again started to change for the farm as Neethlingshof Estate was sold to its new French owners in 2022.

As the Hill&Dale property did not form part of the sale to the French, this opened the doors to a new partnership between Frank Schreiber (HJS’s son), Betty Tan (previously MD of Neethlingshof Estate) and Guy Webber, as they took over the property and named it SEVILO – a reversal of the original, OLIVES.
